Building your website
Photos and images
Upload your own photos, crop them to fit and describe them.
Your own photos make the biggest difference to how your website feels: you, your team, the places you go and, of course, the animals.
Replace an image
Hover over any picture on your page and choose Replace image. Then either:
- drag photos from your computer into the upload box, or click it to choose files, or
- pick something you've uploaded before from Your images.
JPG, PNG, WebP and GIF files up to 15MB all work. Photos straight from your phone are fine, because we resize and optimise them automatically so your website stays fast.
Crop and position
After choosing a photo you'll see Position your image. The frame is exactly the shape the photo appears on your website, so:
- drag the photo to choose what's in the frame
- use the Zoom slider to get closer
Choose Use this image to finish. To change the crop later, choose the photo again (or Adjust crop in the right-hand panel).
Describe your images
Add a short Description of each photo, for example A spaniel splashing in a stream. It's read aloud to people using screen readers, it helps search engines understand your page, and it's shown if a picture can't load.
Your image library
Images in the left-hand menu lists everything you've uploaded. Select a photo to edit its description or delete it. Deleting an image leaves an empty space anywhere it was used, so choose a replacement first.
Tips for great photos
- Landscape (wide) photos suit most spaces. Keep the important part near the middle.
- Natural light beats flash.
- Use a few great photos rather than lots of similar ones.
